Fireworks!

Yay 'splodie things! If you like fireworks, you may enjoy some of the pics I took last night. A few samples behind the cut!

There was actually a soundtrack playing as the fireworks went off. A lot of it was... curious. Patriotic (nationalistic?) country songs, Neil Diamond (Comin' to America!) and even (If I remember right) the Simon and Garfunkle ".. gone, to look for America" song which was done in the style of a Gregorian chant.

As I took pics, wished for a tripod and worried as I saw hot ash falling near and sometimes on me, I thought: this is really cool, but it really isn't worth losing an eye. Ah well, I'm glad I'm wearing glasses.

I heard The Star Spangled Banner come up and thought- Yeah, this has got to be the finish. And there were some very good fireworks, but not the grand finale which i expected.

There were some technical difficulties, and people started to stand up and grab their chairs when I heard some introductory sounds to War of 1812 Overture. It kind of blew my mind- when I hear that music, coupled with fireworks, I automatically leap to the movie V for Vendetta. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but even if it wasn't, I'm terribly grateful to have heard it, anyway.

And yes, there are much cooler pics at the gallery. :)

1812 overture is pretty common for fireworks display because of the original score calling for cannon shot.

(To quote Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes)

"In a crowded theater?! And I thought classical music was boring!" :)

still, point taken.

Very nice!:-) So, did you ditch your Flickr account for Picasa?

Thanks!

Yeah; flickr's interface was annoying me, and I thought I'd play around with Picasa. So far, I like it a lot better- the learning curve isn't as steep.

I also like the idea that it's based around a set amount of memory, as opposed to a transmission amount per month. It leaves open the possibility of deleting pics rather than buying more space if I have a lot to upload.

Thanks! I wish I were a bit further away- many of the very big, very cool ones didn't even come close to fitting in frame. But I do what I can... :)

those are incredible!!! i tried taking some pics with my camera, but we were very very far away and up a mountain when we were watching fireworks. we were actually kind of looking down on them. it was awesome.

so where did you go to see the fireworks? did you go to the detroit symphony orchestra concert? i heard they played the 1812 overture and used real cannons!
